Solar panel installation in Hervey Bay

Solar panel installation in Hervey Bay puts modules on the roof, an inverter on the wall, and a connection into the switchboard so the house can use power while the sun is out. It is a design job first. The useful questions are where the roof faces, what shades it, what the board can take, and when the household actually uses power. A system that makes a lot of electricity at midday does little for a house that is empty until evening, unless a battery is added later.

Best in the Bay can look after the electrical side of that connection. The business holds electrical contractor licence 1511769.

Who asks for panels

People usually call for one of these reasons:

  • Daytime use is high: someone is home, a pool pump runs, or the air conditioner works through summer afternoons.
  • An older system has stopped producing, or the inverter has failed and the panels are no longer a match for a straight swap.
  • The roof is being replaced and it is the practical moment to set out the array.
  • They want the wiring and the board done by the same electrician who will stand behind the electrical work.

We do not promise a bill outcome on this page. What you save depends on how much you use while the panels are producing, the tariff you are on, and the size that actually fits. Bring a recent bill and we will talk it through with you. We will not guess a saving.

What we look at before anyone is on the roof

Bring the latest power bill if you have one, and tell us what runs during the day. Then we look at the building:

  • Roof material and age. Tile, metal, and a roof that is already tired are different fixing jobs.
  • Direction and tilt, and shade from trees, a second storey, or the house next door. Shade on one part of a string of panels can pull the whole string down, which is why the layout matters.
  • Where the inverter can go, out of harsh sun if possible, with enough airflow, and close enough to the board to keep the cable run sensible.
  • The switchboard. Solar needs a point to connect. A crowded or fused board may need an upgrade. That is electrical work, and we would rather show you the board than assume it is fine.
  • How the cable gets from the roof to the inverter without looking like an afterthought. We agree that route with you before anyone is on the roof.

If the roof is not a good place for panels, we say so. Not every house should have them.

How the install runs

Once the design is agreed, the day is roughly this. The array is set out and fixed to the roof. DC cable is run to the inverter. The inverter is mounted and connected to the switchboard, with isolators where the design calls for them. The system is tested before it is switched on. Labels go on the board and the inverter so the next person can see what is what.

The time on site is confirmed with you. Two storeys, a tile roof, or a switchboard upgrade on the same day changes that.

After the system is on, we tell you what paperwork the job needs and who it goes to. Ask us when we quote and we’ll talk you through it.

You should know the power may be off while the board is connected. We tell you before that happens.

What changes the price

No dollar figures belong here. The quote moves with:

  • How many panels fit on a clear part of the roof, and the inverter size that matches them.
  • Roof material, pitch, and height. A two-storey tile roof is more work than a single-storey metal roof.
  • Cable route length and whether the switchboard must be upgraded first.
  • Where the inverter sits, and whether a new circuit has to be run to it.
  • Brands we commonly install include Jinko Solar, TW Solar and REC panels, and Sungrow, Fronius and GoodWe inverters. We’ll talk you through which suits your home and budget.

Salt air is part of quoting a coastal roof. Fixings and isolators that are casual about corrosion become the next repair. We treat that as a design choice, not a slogan.

Why ask us

You get an electrician who is already in Hervey Bay, not a sales desk reading a script, and a board we can upgrade ourselves if solar needs it. Air conditioning and the switchboard are the same phone call if those jobs belong together.

If you already know you want storage for the evening, read the solar battery page before you lock the inverter choice. Some inverters are ready for a battery and some are not. Ask us before you lock the choice and we’ll talk you through it.

Call, or send an enquiry with the suburb, a note about the roof, and photos of the switchboard and the roof if you can take them safely from the ground.

Questions people ask

Will solar run the house at night?

Panels make power while the sun is on them. At night the house draws from the grid unless a battery is part of the job. A battery is a separate decision. The solar battery page explains that option, including the federal program that can reduce the upfront cost of an eligible battery installed with solar.

Do you need to see the roof before you quote?

Yes. Photos help, but the quote depends on roof material, how many storeys, shade from trees or a neighbour's house, and where the inverter and the switchboard sit. A number given without that is a guess.

What if my switchboard is old?

Solar has to connect to the board. A full fuse box or a board with no spare way can need an upgrade before or during the install. We say that after we look, and we can do the board as electrical work under our contractor licence. We do not hide it inside the solar price and surprise you on the day.

Can salt air damage the panels?

Frames, bolts, and isolators on a roof near the coast live in salt air. That is a reason to use gear suited to it and to keep an eye on fixings over the years. Ask us on the day and we'll talk you through what we fit on a coastal roof.
