Solar battery in Hervey Bay
A solar battery in Hervey Bay stores electricity your panels make, so the house can use it later instead of exporting all of it as it is produced. That is the whole idea. It does not make the panels produce more. It moves some of that daytime energy into the evening, or into a short peak, depending on how the system is set.
It is not automatically a backup supply. If the grid fails, a battery only keeps selected circuits running when it has been designed and installed to do that. We say, in the quote, whether backup is included. If it is not, the lights still go out in a street outage.
The electrical connection is work for a licensed electrical contractor. Best in the Bay holds licence 1511769 for that electrical work.
When a battery is worth talking about
A battery suits a house that already has solar, or is getting solar, and uses power after the sun drops: cooking, air conditioning into the evening, or simply being home at night. Hervey Bay summers push air conditioners hard late in the day. A battery can cover some of that only if it is large enough and the inverter allows it. We do not promise a particular room will stay cool.
It is a poor fit when the panels are shaded for most of the day, when the existing inverter cannot accept a battery and replacing it is more than you want to do, or when the switchboard is already at its limit. In those cases we say so after we look.
If you do not have panels yet, start with the solar panel installation page. The inverter choice is easier before it is on the wall.
The federal program, without the fine print invented
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program can reduce the upfront cost of an eligible battery installed with solar. The discount changes over time and it depends on battery size. This page does not state a dollar amount or a percentage, because those figures move and a stale number would be worse than none.
Read the current rules on the official program page: Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
Yes. We can install batteries under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program. Eligibility has conditions. We will only apply a discount we are actually able to offer, and we will match what the official page says at the time of the quote.
What the visit covers
We look at the inverter nameplate, the switchboard, and the wall where a battery could sit. Weight, clearance, heat, and a safe cable path all matter. A garage wall is often the starting point. A bedroom wall or a tight cupboard usually is not.
If backup is what you want, we walk the circuits with you and name which ones could stay on. That might be lights and a fridge, not the whole house and the air conditioner together. The battery size and the inverter have to match that choice. Ask us on the day and we’ll talk you through which circuits could stay on.
Installation, once quoted, is mounting, cabling, connecting to the inverter and the board, testing, and labelling. The power may be off while the board is worked on. The time on site is confirmed with you.
What changes the price
Still no dollar amounts:
- Battery size, which is tied to how much evening use you want to cover and to what the program’s size rules are at the time.
- Whether the existing inverter can take a battery or must be replaced.
- Whether the switchboard needs an upgrade before another device can land on it.
- Backup or no backup. Backup adds switching gear and a decision about circuits.
- Cable distance, wall type, and whether the battery needs a pad or a special fixing.
- Brands we commonly install include Sigenergy, Sungrow and GoodWe batteries, and Sungrow, Fronius and GoodWe inverters. We’ll talk you through which suits your home and budget.
Why talk to us before you buy a battery online
A battery bought first, then presented to an electrician, is often the wrong inverter match or the wrong size for the board. We would rather see the inverter and the board, then quote a battery that can actually connect. The same visit can pick up a switchboard limit or a solar fault instead of leaving it for a second call.
Call or send the suburb, the inverter brand and model if you know them, and a photo of the switchboard. If the federal discount matters to the decision, we will check the official page with you at quote time rather than rely on a number printed months ago.
