24/7 emergency electrician in Hervey Bay
Open 24 hours, 7 days — including weekends and public holidays.
A 24/7 emergency electrician is for a fault in your home or business that is unsafe to leave, or that has cut power to your place only. Best in the Bay is a licensed electrical contractor in Hervey Bay, and the phone is answered day and night. If you have read the safety notes above and it is safe to stay on the line, use the call button. The quote form is for work that can wait.
What counts as an electrical emergency
Call when the wiring, the switchboard, or a power point is going wrong now.
A burning smell from a power point or the switchboard. Hot plastic, or a fishy smell from a point, a switch, or the board, is a reason to stop using that circuit and call. Do not keep plugging things in to see if the smell comes back.
Sparking. A flash as you insert a plug, a switch that sparks, or a light that crackles needs a licensed electrician. If you can reach the switchboard without touching the damaged part, turn that circuit off, then call.
A safety switch that will not reset. Leave it off. It is doing the job it was fitted for: power is leaking somewhere on that circuit. Switching it on again and again does not find the fault.
Total power loss in your home only. If your house is dark and the neighbours still have lights, the fault is likely on your side of the connection. That is an electrician’s job. If the whole street is dark, use the Ergon number in the safety panel.
Storm or water damage to wiring. After wind, a roof leak, or a burst hose, do not stand in water to reach a switch. If you can reach the main switch from a dry floor, turn it off, then call.
Exposed wires. A cable with the sheath cut, a power point pulled from the wall, or a lead with copper showing is not a tape-up repair. Keep people and pets away from it and call.
A hot switchboard, a breaker that will not stay on, or lights that surge and then dim belong on the same list. A blown globe, or a power point you would like moved next month, is ordinary work for the quote form. If you are not sure, call and describe what you can see and smell.
What happens when you call
You speak to us, including after hours, on weekends, and on public holidays. We ask what is happening, whether anything smells hot or is sparking, whether the safety switch has tripped, and whether the neighbours still have power. We give safety advice over the phone so you know what to leave alone while you wait. Then we arrange to come out.
We will not ask you to pull the switchboard apart or to dry a wet fitting. If you describe a fallen powerline, a shock from a tap or other metal, or a street with no power, we will point you to 000 or Ergon, the same way the safety panel does.
What to have ready
Have the address, including the suburb. Say what you noticed, in the order it happened, and whether anyone has had a shock. A photo of the switchboard or the damaged fitting helps, if you can take it without going near water, smoke, or a bare wire. Show it to us when we arrive. If the job is not urgent, that photo can go on the quote form instead.
After hours
We are open 24 hours, 7 days, including weekends and public holidays. This page does not give a travel time or a price.
After-hours visits cover Hervey Bay and surrounding areas. The call-out fee is price on application. Ring us and we will confirm it for your address.
Planned work such as a smoke alarm upgrade is not an emergency unless a fitting is burning or the wiring to it is damaged.
