Air conditioner cleaning in Hervey Bay

Aircon cleaning in Hervey Bay is a proper clean of a split system or a ducted system that has started to smell, drip, or push less air. It is not a new air conditioner, and it is not a promise that every fault will be fixed in the same visit. The power is isolated before any covers come off.

Humidity here keeps indoor coils wet. A blocked drain is how that water comes back into the room. Near the coast, salt air builds up on outdoor coils and fans. A unit two streets from the bay can look tired sooner than the same model further inland. That is weather, not a slogan.

Electrical faults on the supply are electrical work under contractor licence 1511769.

Signs it is due

  • A musty smell when the unit starts.
  • Weaker airflow than you remember.
  • Water dripping from the indoor unit, or a stain on the wall under a split system head.
  • Dark spots on the vents or on the fan.
  • The unit seeming to work harder than it used to, running longer to hold the same room.

If water is reaching a power point, stop using the unit and call. A routine clean is for a unit that still runs.

Split system clean

This is the indoor head and the outdoor unit.

Power is isolated first. The filters come out and are washed. The indoor coil, the barrel (blower) fan, the drain tray, and the drain line are cleaned. A wash-down bag keeps that water in the bag and out of the room. Covers are wiped and put back. The outdoor unit is checked, the coil is cleaned, and leaves and debris are cleared. That outdoor clean matters near the coast, where salt air builds up on the fins. Then we run the unit and watch the drain.

If a filter is falling apart, we tell you it needs replacing. We supply the replacement filter. We do not pretend a rinse fixes a filter that has come apart.

A bank of heads, or a unit on a second-storey bracket, takes longer than one head at ground level. The time for a single unit is in the comparison further down.

Ducted clean

Most of this work is in the roof space. If the hatch is blocked or the roof is too tight to enter safely, we say so before covers come off.

Power is isolated. The return air filter is cleaned or replaced. The indoor fan coil unit, the drain tray, and the drain line are checked and cleaned. Ceiling outlets and grilles are cleaned. The outdoor unit is checked and cleaned, including salt and leaves on a coastal block. We test the system across the zones.

Duct cleaning itself is separate. We look at the condition of the ductwork and tell you honestly whether cleaning, repairing, or replacing a section makes sense. Washing the filter does not fix a crushed duct.

The time for one system is in the comparison below.

Split vs ducted cleaning: what’s the difference?

Split system Ducted
Where the work happens At the indoor head on the wall, and at the outdoor unit. Mostly in the roof space, plus the ceiling outlets and the outdoor unit.
What gets cleaned Filters, indoor coil, barrel fan, drain tray, drain line, covers, and the outdoor coil. Return air filter, indoor fan coil, drain tray, drain line, outlets and grilles, and the outdoor unit. The ducts themselves are a separate decision.
How much of the home it affects The room that head serves. Other heads are separate cleans. The zones on that system. We test across the zones, not one room only.
What you can do yourself between cleans Wash the filters, following the manufacturer's manual. Do not hose the unit with the power on. Clean or replace the return air filter, following the manufacturer's manual. Leave the roof-space unit to us.

What you can do yourself

Clean split system filters, and the ducted return air filter, as the manufacturer’s manual recommends. This page does not state an interval. If a filter is grey and matted, it is due.

Never spray water or cleaner into the unit with the power on. Water and live parts are how a clean becomes a shock or a wrecked board. If you are not sure the power is off, leave the covers on and call.

If we find a fault

A refrigerant leak, a failed fan, or a burnt connection is not part of the clean. We stop, explain what we found, and quote the repair on its own so you can say no.

A clean does not include a new system. If replacement is the honest answer, we quote a split system or a ducted system separately.

What changes the price

No dollar amounts:

  • Split system or ducted, and how many indoor units.
  • How dirty they are, and whether the drain is blocked.
  • Access: a head over a garden bed is simpler than a roof space full of storage, or an outdoor unit on a second storey.
  • Repairs found during the clean. Those are quoted separately.
  • Filters that need replacing. Ask us on the day and we’ll talk you through getting a new one.

Why book the people who also fit them

We install these systems as well, so we can say when a clean is enough and when the unit should be replaced. The electrical supply is already our work.

Call with the suburb, whether it is split or ducted, and what it is doing. A photo of the head or the return air grille, and of the outdoor unit from the ground, is enough to start. If water is reaching a power point, say that first.

Questions people ask

Is a clean the same as a repair?

No. A clean is the filters, the coil, the fan, the drain, and the outdoor unit, with a test run at the end. If we find a failed part, a refrigerant leak, or an electrical fault, that is a repair and it is quoted separately. We do not fold an unknown repair into the clean.

Do you top up the gas while you are there?

Not as part of a clean. Refrigerant belongs in a sealed system. If it is short, it has gone somewhere, and adding more without finding why brings the same fault back.

Can I wash the filters myself?

Yes. Split system filters, and the return air filter on a ducted system, are the parts a homeowner can look after. Follow the manufacturer's manual. This page does not state how often. Never spray water or cleaner into the unit with the power on.

Do you clean the ducts?

Duct cleaning is a separate job from cleaning the unit. On a ducted visit we look at the ductwork we can see and tell you honestly whether cleaning, repairing, or replacing a section makes sense. We do not sell a duct clean as if it were included in the unit clean.

What if the unit is old and a clean will not help?

If it is rusted through, noisy in a way a clean cannot fix, or too small for the room, we say so. A split system that has had it is the split system installation page. A ducted system that has had it is the ducted page. We would rather tell you that than charge for a wash that will not fix a dying compressor.
